Sports Instruction

The athletic component of the Summer Academy centers around individual skill development in small, focused groups. Even before arriving to campus, we ask accepted athletes to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Our instructional program challenges student-athletes to take risks as they gradually turn their weaknesses into strengths to become more complete players. Student-athletes leave with a more mature assessment of their game and fully prepared to showcase their broadened skill-set.

Each day at the Summer Academy contains 3 intense athletic sessions.

Vitamins -- Our 7 am high-energy strength, speed, and agility workout.

Electives -- With guidance from their advisor, student-athletes choose among a list of high-level instruction sessions focusing on a very specific skill. For example, students can choose an elective that focuses on “Half and Full-Volley Finishing” or “The Mid-Range Dribble-Relocation Jump-Shot” — courses are taught by experienced coaches in groups of 3-5 athletes.

Competition -- From intensely competitive drills, to small-sided scrimmages to full-court games, this is an opportunity for athletes to implement their newly polished skills in a setting that is both competitive and instructive.

With a maximum enrollment of 28 athletes in each sports program, and a 4:1 student-athlete to coach ratio, the personalized athletic instruction is beyond anything experienced at other sports programs.
